Question

What is a vortex cooler, and what does it do?

Answer

It is a device that uses compressed air as a means of enclosure cooling when other methods are impractical or impossible.

The principal behind the operation is complex. The compressed air enters the generator section of the vortex tube and forces the air to spin around the inside of the tube at around 1M rpm towards the hot air control valve. Some of this air moves to the atmosphere via the hot air release valve (preset at the factory.) The remaining balance of air moves into the middle of the vortex where the speed is less and it is given time to release built up heat.

Basically, the high velocity air picks up the heat and is expelled, where the low velocity cool air gets fed back into the enclosure.
