DL05 Frequently Asked Questions AutomationDirect Logo

Question

Can I read and write data from a second DL05?

Answer

a. Yes. You will need to configure one DL05 as the master. The master will use RX and WX instructions to read/write data from the slave units. You can use Modbus or Directnet protocols for this purpose. Either protocol supports multi-drop networks. The following link is to a Master and a Slave ladder example for use with a DL05: (Click here for ladder example).
b. Chapter 4 of the DL05 user manual shows: (Click here for Chapter 4).
i. Wiring diagrams for a master-slave configuration using RS232 on page 33.
ii. Shows how to wire an RS422 network for a master (PC or PLC) to multiple slaves on page 34.
iii. Use the FA-ISOCON to convert RS-232 to RS-422. The DL05 port 2 only supports RS-232.
