Question: Does the DL05 support Modbus protocol?
Answer: Yes, the DL05 supports Modbus RTU protocol as a slave on port 1 and as a master or slave on port 2.
FAQ ID: 4
Question: Does the DL05 work with wireless modems?
Answer: There are two options for using wireless communications with the DL05: Serial and Ethernet. With the first option, either port of the DL05 will work with a wireless serial modem as long as the modem does not require an RTS and CTS signal for handshaking. The other option is to place an H0-ECOM or H0-ECOM100 Ethernet Communications Module in the option slot of the DL05 unit and find an appropriate Ethernet to wireless device. AutomationDirect.com does not currently sell any radio devices.

Question: Can the DL05 communicate with other DirectLogic PLCs?
Answer: Yes, the DL05 can communicate to all of the other DirectLogic PLCs including the DL06, DL105, DL205, DL305 and DL405 families. The DL05 can be a serial master or slave to a:

DL06 DirectNet or Modbus RTU
D2-240 DirectNet
D2-250-1 DirectNet or Modbus RTU
D2-260 DirectNet or Modbus RTU
D2-262 DirectNet or Modbus RTU
D3-340 DirectNet
D3-350 DirectNet or Modbus RTU
D4-440 DirectNet
D4-450 DirectNet or Modbus RTU
D4-454 DirectNet or Modbus RTU

It can also be an Ethernet master or slave when using an optional Ethernet Communications Module H0-ECOM100 in the option slot of the DL05. An RS232 to RS422/485 converter will be required for communications wiring.
FAQ ID: 6
Question: Does the DL05 support peer-to-peer communications?
Answer: Yes, the DL05 supports peer-to-peer using Ethernet communications only, which requires one of the optional H0-ECOM or H0-ECOM100 modules.
FAQ ID: 8
Question: To connect a modem with a DL05, do I need to jump RTS and CTS on the PLC side?
Answer: There is not a CTS pin on the DL05. This connection is the same as the connection for a D2-240 bottom port connection. A diagram for that can be found here.
FAQ ID: 10
Question: Does the DL05 support DNP 3.0 protocol?
Answer: At this time, it does not.
FAQ ID: 14
Question: What is the smallest PLC unit that can handle Modbus RTU?
Answer: The DL05
FAQ ID: 16
Question: Will the DL05 do full or half duplex?
Answer: Half duplex
FAQ ID: 17
Question: Can you print from a DL05?
Answer: Yes - ASCII out on a serial printer only
FAQ ID: 18
Question: Can the DL05 do ASCII out?
Answer: Yes, via the PRINT instruction.
FAQ ID: 20
Question: Can the EBC communicate to the DL05 through a serial port?
Answer: No, it can't. The serial port on the EBC is for simple serial communication only. It does not support the required protocols to communicate to a DL-05.
FAQ ID: 22
Question: Do you offer precision resistors?
Answer: At this time we do not
FAQ ID: 25
Question: Can the DL05 do printing and communication on same port at same time?
Answer: No, it cannot.
FAQ ID: 26
Question: Can I make 2 D0-05 slaves on a multidrop communicate to each other?
Answer: No, the data must be routed by the master.
FAQ ID: 318
Question: Can port 1 on the DL05 be a master?
Answer: No.
FAQ ID: 549
Question: Is the Directnet protocol the same between the DL05 and the DL205?
Answer: Yes.
FAQ ID: 585
Question: Does the DL05 have Ethernet capabilities?
Answer: Yes, adding the option module H0-ECOM100.
FAQ ID: 588
Question: What is the current rating for the 5 volts of the communication port on the DL05 PLC?
Answer: 200 milliamps.
FAQ ID: 750
Question: Can I read and write data from a second DL05?
Answer: a. Yes. You will need to configure one DL05 as the master. The master will use RX and WX instructions to read/write data from the slave units. You can use Modbus or Directnet protocols for this purpose. Either protocol supports multi-drop networks. The following link is to a Master and a Slave ladder example for use with a DL05: (Click here for ladder example).
b. Chapter 4 of the DL05 user manual shows: (Click here for Chapter 4).
i. Wiring diagrams for a master-slave configuration using RS232 on page 33.
ii. Shows how to wire an RS422 network for a master (PC or PLC) to multiple slaves on page 34.
iii. Use the FA-ISOCON to convert RS-232 to RS-422. The DL05 port 2 only supports RS-232.

Question: I am not able to force IO bits online. What am I doing wrong?
Answer: a. Check the link setup and verify your link is configured for K-sequence. If it was configured for DirectNet, you will not be able to force bits. If you are using a link with an ECOM module, make sure you check the protocol selected for the link is ECOM.
