What is a Step file?

Answer

A Step file (.STEP or .STP) is a universal 3D CAD file. It stores 3D image data in an ASCII format and can be opened by various CAD software.

What type of software do I need to open the Step file?

Answer

In order to open the Step file just for viewing you must have a 3D Step file viewer. To open the Step file for use you must have 3D software that is compatible with the Step file format, such as SolidWorks®, Autodesk Inventor®, and Solid Edge®, to name a few.

What if I get errors when I open the Step file?

Answer

Some of the Step files offered are provided by the manufacturer and we cannot guarantee the integrity of the file. You may be able to open the Step file in one type of CAD software, but it may error with others.
