Question: For the stainless steel enclosures, what grade of stainless steel is used?
Answer: Current stainless steel enclosures are made of 304 stainless steel.

Question: What is the thickness and material of your NEMA 1 rated enclosures?
Answer: NEMA 1 enclosures are mostly carbon steel, although some of the screw cover wall mount enclosures are available in G-90 pre-galvanized steel. The gauge depends on the specific model of NEMA 1 enclosure and is stated in the specifications for the enclosure, by part number, but ranges from 12, 14, and 16 gauge.

Question: What is a vortex cooler, and what does it do?
Answer: It is a device that uses compressed air as a means of enclosure cooling when other methods are impractical or impossible. The principal behind the operation is complex. The compressed air enters the generator section of the vortex tube and forces the air to spin around the inside of the tube at around 1M rpm towards the hot air control valve. Some of this air moves to the atmosphere via the hot air release valve (preset at the factory.) The remaining balance of air moves into the middle of the vortex where the speed is less and it is given time to release built up heat. Basically, the high velocity air picks up the heat and is expelled, where the low velocity cool air gets fed back into the enclosure.

Question: I have an IP65 enclosure, what NEMA equivalent does ADC carry?
Answer: To answer this question, we must first look at IEC Publication 60529. It provides for a system for specifying the enclosures of electrical equipment based on degree of protection provided by the enclosure. It does not specify degrees of protection against mechanical damage of equipment, risk of explosions, or conditions such as moisture, corrosive vapors, fungus, or vermin. The difference in testing makes NEMA and IEC not identical. The user must be informed that a comparison can be made but the liability of the choice rests with them. NEMA 1 – IP20 NEMA 4X – IP65 NEMA 12 – IP52

Question: I purchased one of your SND12 (non _PL) enclosures but it doesn't have a safety door interlock kit (or door handle). Where can I get a door handle and safety door interlock kit?
Answer:

We sell two versions of the SDN12 disconnect enclosure. The _PL version, such as SDN12xxxxxxPL, only requires you to purchase a disconnect handle kit for your disconnect or breaker. The non _PL version, such as SDN12xxxxxx, requires you to purchase or supply a disconnect handle kit and a safety door interlock kit (which includes a door handle) for your disconnect or breaker. With either enclosure, you must buy a disconnect handle kit. The non _PL model also requires you to purchase a safety door interlock kit. The enclosure manufacturer doesn't make the safety door interlock kit. Please read the specifications for the SDN12 enclosure before you purchase it to insure it supports a manufacturer and part number that is compatible with your disconnect or breaker.

If you purchase an SDN12 (non _PL) enclosure and one of AutomationDirect's MCCBs, made by Cutler-Hammer, we now have the necessary safety door interlock kit part numbers you can order to add an interlocking door handle to the SDN12 (non _PL) enclosure. We offer two versions of the safety door interlock kit. You can use either one with the SDN12 (non _PL) enclosure. The only difference is the length of the door handle, one is 4" and one is 6". Either will work with any of the SDN12 (non _PL) enclosures. If your SDN12 (non _PL) enclosure is 40" or more tall, you must also add an additional roller.

The part numbers for the safety door interlock kits and additional rollers are:

PART NUMBER    DESCRIPTION               PRICE
C361KJ4                4 INCH HANDLE KIT    $159.00
C361KJ6                6 INCH HANDLE KIT    $169.00
C361KR                 ADDITIONAL ROLLER    $35.00

These are Cutler-Hammer part numbers. They are not currently available on our website, so if you need these parts you will need to contact a Sales Representative in our Sales Department. They can place an order for these parts, which will drop-ship from Cutler-Hammer. You can also order these parts directly from a Cutler-Hammer distributor.
